Malmesbury is a hill top town whose medieval core stands high above a river valley.
The valley formed by two arms of the infant River Avon which hug the hill giving the most beautiful setting to the town.
From earliest times man has needed access to and from this hill top and bridges have been built (and replaced) as time and the needs of the community of Malmesbury evolved and developed.
