The Abbey Bridge Mostly used as a pedestrian access due to its very narrow width, this bridge stands due north of the Abbey buildings and has a mill next to it (The Abbey Mill). The original course of the river was north of the car park and through Conygre Mead. History informs us that the monks from the Abbey formed fishponds on the Mead and the date of the re-routing of the river here (a huge engineering feat) is unknown. The bridge linked the Abbey with the Conygre (rabbit warren) and the church of St James and it's village of Whychurch - Remnants of this church dating from the Saxon period are in the fabric of Whychurch farm, a little further north.
